When I came across this post asking darker skinned bloggers 'why I love my brown skin' I felt the need to join in the conversation and give my own reasons for loving my skin.
So here are the reasons why I love my brown skin -
- Bright colours really suit me, both fashion wise and beauty wise
- I never need to worry about getting a tan as I have one all year round
- Its a part of me and it displays my heritage and its a nod to my ancestors
- Its a lovely shade and hides blemishes really easily
- It ages really slowly. I'm 30 years old but most folk think I'm under 25
- It gives me an exotic look that has gotten me a lot of compliments over the years
- And most importantly my brown skin has helped create three truly beautiful children
So that is why I love my brown skin.
Unfortunately I haven't always felt this way. I've spoken before about the racial taunts I suffered as a child due to my skin colour. In those dark days I often wished to have lighter skin to be like everyone else in the extremely caucasian community that I lived in. But now that I'm all grown up I love the skin I'm in. It's the only one I'll ever have and I'm happy with that.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING IN! YOU'RE GORGE!!!

I tried to find the link to the post you're referencing but couldn't. This is a beautiful entry. I love it when people embrace who they are. I've had many people attack me- from two different sides- in a black ethnocentric neighborhood elementary school I was teased for being "too white" and fake- which was funny because I'd just flown in from Jamaica. Apparently the accent wasn't enough haha. I then faced the opposite problem in other schools. It was strange. And in Jamaica, people loved my hair simply because it was softer and longer (it was also a tangled knotted curly mess braided down my back almost to my butt). I think any ethnicity, race, or breed can have beauty. Beauty isn't marked by culture and like love, has no boundaries.
ReplyDeletewoops I see the link is working now, guess I opened the post in it's early stages- you look great here Faye!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely post...I'm pale as milk, as white chocolate, as cotton wool, and I love the skin I'm in and we should all love the skin we are in. You have a lovely tone, and yes, you don't have to worry about sunbathing or catching some colour, you glow already! I go and visit my parents and one of the first things I get told is "oh, why don't you sunbathe a little?" - we can't please everyone but as long as we are glad we are the way we are the rest of the world can just go away ;) xxxxxx
ReplyDeletewow, I love this post!! I'm going to have to check out that link!! These are great reasons to love being brown!! I agree with these!! Isn't it great to be exotic?? :)

ReplyDeleteYour skin-tone is gorgeous from an aesthetic perspective and, of course, wonderful from a human point of view. People who have prejudices aren't worthy of attention and their insults should carry no weight.
ReplyDeleteYou are, naturally, an incredibly beautiful person.
Awww thank you as are you especially the pins :) xxx
ReplyDeleteWell said! Every colour is beautiful and as long as we love ourselves no one else matters xx
ReplyDeleteAww thx your welcome and I was happy to take part xxx
ReplyDeleteAwww thx huni - this is actually my bf's fave pic of me xx
ReplyDeleteYou have such a beautiful golden glow to your skin! You are right - being darker complected you will age slower. I love your reasons here. It is so important to love the skin you are in! Now if only I could slow down the aging process in my own.........
ReplyDeleteLol bt u look gr8 as u are :)
ReplyDeleteYou're 30? I thought you were a teenager! :) You look so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWOW you are gorgeous!! Golden brown gorgeous! 3 children! You have such a sylph body...
ReplyDeleteI love my brown skin because it's the skin I was born in. I have never been ashamed of my skin colour and I'm 'lucky' enough to have never been affected by such things, even growing up in 'white' countries and occasionally being subjected to some misguided taunts by idiots not worth their fake tan bottles.
Skin colour, anyone's skin colour is simply not an issue with me... but I would have liked to be born this colour... :) ... with a hot pink weapon!!
Aww thx as I've got older I've gotten more happy in my skin xx
ReplyDeleteThat's the best compliment ever xx thanks!
