Japanese fashion label Kenzo turns 40

To celebrate Kenzo's 40th birthday this month i take a look at the iconic Japanese fashion house. Formed by Kenzo Takada in October of 1970. He opened his first shop in Paris named 'Jungle Jap'. His ranges were exotic and full of colour. His philosophy was 'East meets West'. The designs were very different from what was selling in Paris at the time. Famed for their large silhouettes, florals and multi cultural influences. Takada retired in 1999 and his assistants took over until Antonio Marras arrived. The brand spent a few years in the wilderness after Takada arrived but was brought back into fashion by Marras. He was the perfect successor to Takada as he shares his love of multi culturalism and follows his passion for fashion fusion.

Marras grew up helping out in his fathers clothes shop in Sardinia and still lives there.

Kenzo launches their first reference book this month about the brand in Art edition form and it will include Kenzo's entire history. Its published by Rizzoli.
