Gold Leopard Print Nails Featuring Topshop Nail Art Pens

I recently ordered myself a pretty iphone case from Ebay and it arrived this morning. It is so 'me' and I love it to pieces. Isn't it pretty? 

Now its design got me thinking and decided I needed to create some nail art to match it. 

Now leopard print nails are so easy to do and luckily I bought some black and gold nail art pens from Topshop yesterday. They are super duper easy to use and at £7.50 for two they are pretty good value. They even include matching gemstones in the base of the pen. Unlike a lot of nail art pens the varnish actually dries very quickly.

For the base I used my Dollywink glitter polish. I've posted about Dollywink before here and it is a great Japanese beauty brand. The polish is quite pigmented and my nails only required two coats.

Models Own Nail Art Pens - New Colours

Anyone who has been reading this blog for a while will know all about my love of nail art. The difference it can make to your nails is astounding and it is rapidly growing in popularity partly thanks to Wah Nails. Their collaboration with Models Own has introduced it to the masses. But the choice was limited as they only did two colours - black and white. So I was overjoyed to discover that they are no available in pink, blue and yellow too. Beauty - An Afternoon At Leticia Haute Coiffure

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending an event at Leticia Haute Coiffure with fellow bloggers Neily and Akeela. Leticia Haute Coiffure is a hair/beauty salon which also incorporates a nail bar and treatment rooms. It is based in Marlyebone and is impeccably stylish with friendly and knowledgable staff. We were given a tour of the premises and met everyone involved. the list of services this salon offers is endless and at prices that won't break the bank. I had my nails done by a lovely lady at the salon and the staff made us feel welcome and looked after. It is the little touches that really make a salon stand out and that was definitely the case at LHC. despite not being open long the salon were finalists in last year's London Lifestyle Awards and it is easy to see why. The owner of the salon spoke with such passion and love and it was apparent how much love and attention she dedicates to the salon. If privacy is your thing the salon even has private rooms available at the back of the salon. They've recently expanded the salon which is also when they introduced the nail bar. unlike most salons they also offer Fashion Styling and owner Leticia is a former stylist. I had an an excellent day and Akeela and neily were the perfect companions. I've known them for well over a year now and I had a great time with them. We started off at Foxcroft & Ginger in Soho for coffee and cake and then made our way to LHC.

So a big thankyou to Akeela, Neily and LHC for a fabulous afternoon.

Nail Art on Men - Yay or Nay?

Model David Agbodji is shown here sporting a $100 nail art manicure at the Fashion Fordward event in NYC. I think the nail art looks amazing (not $100 amazing though). But this isn't about the value of his nail art. what I'd like to know though is - are you for men sporting nail art or against?

Personally I don't mind this kind of nail art on a man as it isn't feminine. If he was seen sporting flowers on his nails though I might feel a little differently. Could nail art on guys be a growing trend or will it be restricted to the catwalk?

Cupcake and Tribal Nail Art

Right y'all know i'm obsessed with nail art right? Well these are two of my most recent creations! I'm especially proud of the cupcake ones. I'm no Sophy Robson but with lots of practice my nail art is steadily improving. You'll see more of my creations on my twitter page under recent images. Review - 17 Magnetic Nail Polish & Mooooo!

Hey Lovelies!

So who's heard of the new trend in nail art? Of course I'm talking about magnetic nail polishes. Basically the polish contains little flecks of metal which create a unique looking effect on the nails when you place a magnet near the wet polish on the nail. Clever huh?

I've been dying to try it out for quite some time so when I saw 17 had brought one out and it was on promotion I figured what the hell, let's give it a try. I have one word word for you - amazing! So easy to apply and I love the 3D effect it gives to my nails and it almost looks holographic when it catches the light. The polish was super easy to apply. It's quite pigmented so you only need one coat and the cuticle rest on the lid makes it a cinch to magnetise the polish. I went for the metallic green colour and it is a gorgeous shade. The polish dries quickly and doesn't chip easily. Sop as you can probably tell 17 Magnetised nail polish gets a big thumbs up from me. Now all I need to decide is which colour to choose next. I think I might try out the purple. Any of you tried magnetic polish yet?







Moving on...... Everytime I attend a bloggers event or press event I seem to get asked for a business card for my blog. I've resisted the urge to purchase some.....until now. Nail Art - Dotty About Dalmations

 



As long time readers will know I have been a fan of nail artist extraordinaire Sophy Robson for quite some time. I even interviewed her and was immediately struck by the passion and dedication she brings to her job and we both share an insane love of Japanese 3D nail art.

Last February sophy did the nails for the Topshop Unique show for AW11. The nails became as big a hit as the clothes and I can see why. Dalmation nails ARE the hottest nail art trend for AW so of course I had to try them for myself and they are suprisingly easy to do. See my effort below.

The white base was done using Barry M Nail Paints in white and I used a black nail polish from the same range to do the dotting. The key is to vary the size and shape of the dots.

Sophy's work is so inspiring! Whenever I need some nail art inspiration I usually either visit her website or her tumblr.

These are the nails I’m currently sporting. I have a love for polka dots but I wanted to switch up the colours a bit. So I went for grey and pink instead of my usual red & white.

The base is Mavala in grey and the dots were made using a pink nail art pen which I bought on Ebay (it came as part of a set of 30).

I’m seriously in love with dress. It’s floaty, feminine and the embellishment around the neckline is beautiful. It was a steal too from the H&M Summer Sale. I’ve teamed this dress with my Jeffrey Campbell clogs which i adore and they’re surprisingly comfortable. I’m really proud of this outfit post as my photography and editing skills are improving. I can’t really take credit for the editing though as it was all done courtesy of Carrie of fabulous blog WishWishWish. She recently published a download of photoshop actions which was a total lifesaver. So what do you think?

Wah Nails hit Japan

 

Top British nail salon Wah Nails has hit Tokyo. To those who've never heard of them they are a brilliant nail salon based in Dalston, London. They also have a stand in the basement of Topshop on Oxford Street.

They are currently in Tokyo, showing the Japanese that they're not the only ones who can create spectacular nail art. For a company that was only founded last year they are doing amazingly well.

They set up a stand in the store 'Opening Ceremony' and were visited by hoards of Japanese women, many wearing Halloween outfits and even a few of the male species.

Interview with nail artist to the stars Sophy Robson

Sophie Robson is a nail art extraorinaire. She recently did a 1 week pop up nail bar at iconic selfridges in London. She has done the nails for the likes of Giles, Vivienne Westwood, Vogue UK, Russia and Japan, Elle and Marc Jacobs. When you see her work you can understand why she is known as nail artist to the stars.

So here's my interview with Sophy where i asked her about Japanese nail art and london fashion week.

How did you get started with nail art?

I became obsessed with doing my nails in the mid 90s from being into hiphop music. I taught myself how to do a french manicure and it went from there.

How was working at London Fashion Week?

It was a busy season! Fashion week is a it like a whirlwind and when its over you see all these posts about your nails so you know its been worth it.

Which celeb's nails would you most like to do and why?

I recently met this new artist called Rita Ora who is signed to Jay Z's label. She is really into nails and wanted me to do nails for her video. Unfortunateley I couldnt do that one but I hope to create something special for her soon. Nicky Minaj is also a "nail icon" I would like to to do some special barbie nails for.
I love working with anyone who appreciates a good nail!
I have also always wanted to work with Jennifer Lopez as she is one of my idols.

What is your must have nail design for AW 2011?

Well it looks like the Giles manicure has been really popular already.

which designer have you most liked doing nails for?

I love working with Marc Jacobs as his attention to detail is just mind blowing. He always has genius ideas. And of course Giles Deacon as hes such a laugh and   I loved doing the EEEk nail. Tom Ford is also amazing and an absoloute dream to work with.

would you 1 day like to do nails for japan fashion week?

Ummmm like so YES!!!!! I am obsessed with Japanese nail art and am dying to go there so much.

Are you a fan of 3d style Japanese nails?

Totally....I am interested to see how it is slowly filtering into the mainstream. I totally love all the Japanese animation characters and that whole "cute" culture since   Hello Kitty and Little Twin Stars.

If you weren't a nail artist whawould you be?

Errrrrr probably in a lot of trouble!

Gyaru Nails (Pic heavy)

 

So i really wanna try out doing my own gyaru nails (partly inspired by samei getting hers done)

I really need to master making shapes outta acrylic (i already have loadsa acrylic at home)

So guys which design do you like best i think im gonna start off with the pink nails with the silver glittery tios because they’d be very simple to do then graduate onto more advanced designs.
